Magdalena is a young woman who doesn’t speak, and communicates with the world through music. At night she plays in a club, dreaming about having a real career as a DJ. During the day she does her best to take care of her five-year-old daughter, who she’s raising with her mother’s help. Because of her disability, it’s difficult for her to find and keep a permanent job, and the situation at home is getting increasingly tense. When she meets Julia, a well-known DJ who takes her under her wing and promises to take her to Berlin, everything seems to be falling into place. It looks like her dreams might actually have a chance of coming true. Unfortunately, the traumatic past she’s trying to escape keeps catching up with her and destroying what she has managed to achieve. Magdalena is presented with a difficult choice that will deeply impact her future. Filip Gieldon's debut feature is a poignant story about the difficulties of motherhood, the need for self-fulfillment and the search for happiness, made in the spirit of small-scale, realist filmmaking. Told largely through sounds and gestures, this intimate story is all the more captivating because of an important new face in Polish cinema – the highly gifted Magdalena Żak.
