When her father dies unexpectedly, Ola, the eldest of three siblings, returns to her hometown after a long absence. At first everything looks just as she remembered, but in reality there have been significant changes in the lives of her loved ones. Her mother has a new partner, her father’s favorite car is missing from the garage, and the family house is about to be sold. Her relationships with her brother, sister and mother are far from ideal. Ola realizes that this is her last chance to come to terms with the past and start living again. The family videotapes that she finds among her packed belongings are full of heartwarming memories, and should help her do just that. Together with her siblings Pipek and Ajka, Ola also decides to recreate photos from their carefree childhood. This family ritual makes it clear to Ola that everyone close to her is grieving in their own way. Monika Majorek’s debut film, based on her own screenplay, is a poignant story about the power of memory, confronting trauma, and rebuilding family relationships. Where Do We Begin impresses with its sincerity, authenticity, and outstanding performances, particularly by Maja Pankiewicz, who plays the role of Ola.
