LOVE WINS
L’ATTACHEMENT
2024 / 106 min / color
The doorbell rings. Sandra, a 50-year-old librarian, opens the door to her neighbor Cécile, who has a big favor to ask. Her water just broke; she and her partner have to go to the hospital immediately, and she has no one to leave her five-year-old son with. Sandra agrees, although she knows it could be really hard for her. She’s a die-hard single woman, a feminist and someone who has never thought about motherhood; she avoids the company of children like the plague. But a bond begins to form between Sandra and Elliot quite unexpectedly, and it gets stronger when the tragic news arrives from the hospital that Cécile has died during childbirth. Sandra becomes more than an observer of the daily life of the family next door; to some extent she begins to participate in it. And things get even more complicated when Elliot’s real father comes into the picture. Carine Tardieu’s film is adapted from the novel by Alice Ferney. It’s a profoundly humanistic and moving story of love, sacrifice, guilt, and life choices, with outstanding performances by Valeria Bruni Tedeschi and Pio Marmaï.
