Cześnik Raptusiewicz, who lives side by side in the same castle as Rejent Milczek, whom he hates, wants to marry the alluring widow Podstolina. Aware of his lack of social graces and physical shortcomings, he asks Papkin to help him woo her. Papkin, who pretends to be a lady’s man, is in love with Klara, Cześnik’s niece, but she has developed feelings for Wacław, Rejent’s son – and it’s mutual. Neither Cześnik nor Rejent are willing to accept this relationship, and meanwhile a dispute over a boundary wall causes their mutual dislike to escalate. Rejent comes up with the diabolical idea of marrying Wacław to Podstolina, just to thwart Cześnik’s plans. The Revenge is a film adaptation of a comedy in four acts by Aleksander Fredro. It was undertaken, like several other great works of Polish cultural heritage, by legendary director Andrzej Wajda. He invited a group of brilliant actors and actresses, including Janusz Gajos, Andrzej Seweryn, Daniel Olbrychski and Katarzyna Figura, to collaborate. The icing on the cake is the character of Papkin, played by another great Polish director — Roman Polanski.
The Special Screening of the film will be preceded by a Q&A session with the filmmakers.
Please note: the session will be in Polish.
