Two mermaids – Silver and Golden – wash ashore in the middle of the 1980s Warsaw nightclub scene, which is bustling with music, neon lights and sequins. They join the musicians of the band Figs ‘n Dates, and become the talk of the town overnight. Absorbed by love and budding passions, they temporarily forget their true nature. But all it takes is one broken heart for the situation to get completely out of hand… The Lure is the debut feature by Agnieszka Smoczyńska, one of the most interesting Polish directors of recent times, and it paved the way for the next steps in her burgeoning career. The film takes the form of a dark fairy-tale musical, and presents an original take on young girls growing into women. It draws the viewer in with its great acting – from the brilliant performances of Marta Mazurek and Michalina Olszańska to the unconventional casting of Kinga Preis and Jakub Gierszal – as well as the highly original and colorful world it creates. The international success of Smoczyńska’s film has been impressive: in addition to numerous festival awards, it achieved immense popularity in Japan, where it enjoys cult status.

The Special Screening of the film will be preceded by a Q&A session with the filmmakers.
