POLISH FEATURE FILM COMPETITION
ŚWIATŁOCZUŁA
2025 / 93 min / color
Agata works with teenagers in a juvenile detention center; she’s a freediver, she loves life and she lives it to the fullest. She has been blind since childhood. Robert is a rising star in the world of photography, and although he might seem to have everything – career, popularity, recognition – he feels like he has nothing. The fates of these two characters collide during a photo shoot; their meeting starts an inspiring journey in search of acceptance and the courage to be oneself. Agata shows Robert how to perceive the world fully with all his senses, and he, in turn, teaches her to be open to the new and the unknown. Together, they face their limitations and their past and fight for what is most important in life – love. Tadeusz Śliwa’s film has two dimensions: it’s a sensual story of infatuation between two young people that evolves into a serious relationship. It’s interpreted by Matylda Gieżgno, making her debut in the leading role, and Ignacy Lis, known for his role in Netflix’s new interpretation of the Polish classic Znachor (Forgotten Love), among others. Światłoczuła also touches on an important social issue, pointing out our awkwardness in dealing with blind or visually impaired people and our inability to talk about it. Śliwa’s film is poised to break through these limitations and effect positive change.
A Q&A session with the filmmakers will take place during the film screening on May 1 at 6:00 PM at the Małopolska Garden of Arts – Mastercard Birthday Cinema.
Please note: the Q&A will be in Polish.
