Marcin, a narcissistic actor (a perverse performance by Łukasz Simlat), is faced with the unexpected collapse of his long-term relationship, and his private life is mirrored by the unfolding fate of the characters he plays on stage in an uncanny way. The gradual breakdown of his marriage is staged like the flow of the seasons in the theater where the film is set. We observe the explosive relationship between Marcin and his wife Ola (Agnieszka Dulęba-Kasza) as it unravels across three performances: Peter Pan, A Doll’s House and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The situation gets even more complicated as Marcin involves the entire theater company in his personal problems, including the director (played by Andrzej Seweryn), the Polish Theatre in Warsaw director and a highly gifted actor. Michał Grzybowski’s film was one of the discoveries at the most recent Gdynia Film Festival. It’s brilliantly written, cleverly directed and very funny. In this comedy of life, where reality mixes with fiction and the private with the professional, complex emotions are juxtaposed with surprising, lyrical humor. It’s an acting tour de force — lead and supporting performances alike.
A Q&A session with the filmmakers will take place during the film screening on April 28 at 8:30 PM at the Małopolska Garden of Arts – Mastercard Birthday Cinema.
Please note: the Q&A will be in Polish.
