In this fictional trial, twelve jurors are tasked with reaching a verdict in one of the most controversial murder cases of recent decades: the 1996 killing of French film producer Sophie Toscan du Plantier in Ireland. Though based on real events, the film avoids using archival footage or depicting the crime scene and the investigation. The entire story unfolds inside the jury room, where ordinary people argue, debate and strive to determine the truth. Conflicting evidence, raw emotions, and deep-seated prejudices are all factors that threaten to cloud their final decision. Directed by legendary Irish filmmaker Jim Sheridan and David Merriman, this thoughtful courtroom drama brings to mind Sidney Lumet’s 12 Angry Men. The filmmakers illustrate the inner workings of the jury system while also exploring how public opinion can be manipulated. Jim Sheridan himself stars in the lead role, alongside Vicky Krieps and Aidan Gillen, a face well known to audiences of Mastercard OFF CAMERA.
