MAIN DRAMATIC COMPETITION “MAKING WAY”
GORGONÀ
2025 / 95 min / color
In a dystopian future, a Greek city-state is ruled by gasoline and controlled by a ruthless leader and his testosterone-fuelled, macho gang. A beautiful woman, Eleni, is brought in as an offering for the violent gang in exchange for a canister of gas. She is now the property of Nikos, the dying gang leader, who soon announces a brutal competition among his followers to choose his successor. Unexpectedly, a woman named Maria enters the contest as its only female participant. As the violent struggle for leadership unfolds, the two strong yet deeply marginalized women are drawn to each other. Together they rebel against toxic masculinity and the dystopian social order that sustains it. Evi Kalogiropoulo’s debut feature, which played at Venice Critics Week, is a post-apocalyptic, neon-drenched feminist tale. Boldly stylized and visually striking, this girl-power story also surprises with mythological and queer motifs.
