The protagonist of Wiarołom is Ania (played by Julia Szczepańska, in her film debut). After years of being away, Ania returns to her home village to be with her dying mother Mara (Małgorzata Hajewska-Krzysztofik) in the final months of her life. She soon runs into Alek (Mateusz Więcławek), her first love from when she was an adolescent. Their meeting sets in motion a whole series of unexpected events, and ultimately Mara will have to face one of the most difficult challenges of her life. In this original and highly sensual story, all the characters have unique trajectories and harbor their own personal secrets and dreams. Perspectives mix and points of view clash, as more and more passionate feelings gradually come to the surface in each of the characters on screen. “Moving through the world of the main characters' memories, I want to talk about the imperfection of human memory, the moral cost of truth, and whether it's always worth paying,” says director and screenwriter Piotr Złotorowicz about the motivations behind his debut feature.
