The protagonist of Danish director Marianne Blicher's feature debut is 61-year-old Solvej, who lives in government housing on the outskirts of the small town of Viborg. A former local beauty queen, this bitter woman finds it extremely difficult to come to terms with the routine of everyday life and her advancing age. She drives around the neighborhood every day on her motorized wheelchair, selling prescription drugs illegally to raise money for a long-awaited trip abroad, and reminisces fondly about the old times. She’s abruptly pulled out of her stupor by her teenage neighbor Kate, who makes a clumsy attempt to break into her flat in search of the aforementioned drugs. An initial mistrust between the two women soon shifts to an understanding of how their relationship can benefit them both — from a shared interest in shady dealings to in-depth conversations, and eventually a genuine concern for one another. Marianne Blicher's film is a touching story about an unusual friendship. Driven by great performances from Ragnhild Kaasgaard and Isabella Møller Hansen, the story shows how two seemingly incompatible worlds can have a common denominator.
