Sara (Anita Briem, in an outstanding performance) is a single mother in her late 30s raising a six-year-old son. During one of their walks, Sara has a severe epileptic seizure and experiences total memory loss. She tries to hide her condition from everyone around her, afraid she might be considered unfit to care for her son. She does her best to rebuild her life, trying to put together pieces that don't always fit. The process is not easy, because as her memories return she also starts to experience old demons, the ones she unintentionally repressed as a child, and painful truths about her past come to the surface. Tinna Hrafnsdóttir's film is an adaptation of the best-selling novel by one of Iceland's most popular writers, Auður Jónsdóttir. It’s a gripping and psychologically nuanced story about the fuzzy line between fiction and reality, the past and the present. Combining precise storytelling with skillful directing, this is truly an unforgettable film.
