MAIN DRAMATIC COMPETITION “MAKING WAY”
CLOROFILLA
2023 / 75 min / color
Young, green-haired Maia (the fascinating, enigmatic Sarah Short) is fed up with city life and heads out to the country. She starts a job at an orange orchard and is introduced to this particular world by the eccentric, reclusive owner Teo (Michele Ragno). He sees right away that there’s something special about Maia. He devotes nearly as much time to her as he does to his precious trees, and Maia literally blossoms under his watchful eye. But their bucolic utopia, defined by the fascinating rules of botany, is interrupted by the sudden arrival of Teo’s father and brother, who have their own plans for the estate. In her feature debut, Italian director Ivana Gloria presents a magical realm where the line between what’s human and what belongs to nature starts to blur. Stunning cinematography, pulsing with colors as vibrant as Maia’s hair, transports the audience to a re-imagined coming of age story, set in a world where anything is possible.
A Q&A session with the filmmakers will take place during the film screening on May 1 at 9:00 PM at the Academy of Fine Arts.
