Ane (played by Trine Dyrholm, one of Denmark’s most acclaimed actresses) and Thomas (David Dencik) have been married for years, but things haven’t been going well in their relationship for some time. They’ve decided to separate, and Thomas wants to move in with his new girlfriend, but they haven’t broken the news to their two small children yet. Then Ane suffers a serious stroke, which turns all their plans upside down; Thomas sets his plans aside to stay with his wife until she gets better. As the couple tries to pull their lives back together in this new and challenging situation, Ane finds strength in the most unexpected moments. Presented in the prestigious Berlinale Panorama section, Jeanette Nordahl’s movie is a mature, intimate and emphatic portrait of a middle-aged woman whose fate suddenly gets very complicated. And Trien Dyrholm delivers one of the best and most moving performances of her impressive career.
